Who We Are

You can pack in to an unforgettable wilderness vacation as easily as you can drive to your favorite roadside lake or stream. The surrounding high country is as rich in history as it is in natural beauty—crystal-clear alpine lakes, sparkling streams, dramatic mountain vistas, and sweeping valleys filled with pine trees, white fir, and vibrant wildflowers that are unique to the Eastern Sierra.

Leavitt Meadows Pack Station has been family-owned and operated by the same family since 1959, carrying forward decades of knowledge, horsemanship, and personal care in the backcountry.

This storied region traces its name back to the 1860s, when pioneer Hiram Leavitt settled the meadow and established an early hostelry and way station along an important wagon route over Sonora Pass. The meadow and nearby features like Leavitt Peak and Leavitt Lake still bear his name today in recognition of those early settlers who helped open up access through this part of the High Sierra.

Today, we’re tucked away off Sonora Pass (Highway 108)—one of California’s highest mountain roads—just a few miles west of Highway 395 north of Bridgeport, California. A paved road leads right to our front gate, making us easy to reach but deeply immersed in true wilderness country.

Take a moment to explore our website, then give us a call to plan your adventure. Whether it’s a day ride, a pack trip deep into the Hoover Wilderness, or a backpacker drop to begin your own trek, we’re here to help you experience the High Sierra like few others can—and don’t forget your camera!
